I hope I didn't post this already, but I am amazed at the veining in this cut-away section of Maine granite. Did I post this? Oh, well. I still like it.

John, my hydrogeologist friend, tells me that those white veins in the rock are called dikes.
". . .a dike is all good when it comes to geology - simply an intrusion of magma into an existing rock weakness such as a joint or fracture and you get re-consummation and a bit of metamorphism of some parent rock along the interface."
