Palm Bark, Arid Dome

Bougainvillea in Arid Dome

The low winter light coming through the glass lit up this branch of bougainvillea against the arid dome's fake rock.

Domes

I visited the Domes a few days ago and renewed my lapsed membership. This is such a treat after days of freezing temperatures.

Oooooh! Shiny!

These tall buildings are in downtown Jacksonville, FL across from the MOSH. I did darken the sky in the corners, just for fun.

Tail and Shadow

MOSH dinosaur's tail made a nice shadow against the exhibit wall.

MOSH Mannequins

These two were in a MOSH exhibit illustrating life in Florida "way back when." Not as creepy as the old lady in the rocking chair in the Milwaukee Public Museum's Streets of Old Milwaukee exhibit, but creepy nonetheless.

Planet Exhibit at MOSH

This planet was near the ceiling of the dinosaur exhibit at the MOSH. It was spinning, as you can tell by the photo, but there was that pole that appears to be going through it. Once I got home and looked at this, I couldn't figure out what that pole was doing, but I don't think it was going through the sphere or it wouldn't have been able to rotate. I just can't remember what I was seeing! Sometimes a picture is even better with 1000 words of explanation next to it, I guess.

More of the MOSH

This is the entrance to the Jacksonville MOSH (Museum of Science and History) human body exhibit. It's the first thing you see when you come in the front door of the place.

Florida Again

Just got back from another visit to Florida. Will be posting more photos in the coming week. This is a possum that lives at the MOSH (Museum of Science and History) in Jacksonville. I don't know if possums are normally cross-eyed, but this one is! Very cute, actually. She was raised from a baby by humans so she's very tame.

More Havenwoods

Havenwoods State Forest

I can't say it enough: If you live in Milwaukee and have not yet been to Havenwoods, please visit. It is a wonderful bit of wild in the middle of the city. We hit it at the end of day and the light was wonderful.

Muddy Trickle

This is a farmer's field across the highway from the cows shown below. The overcast skies really bring out the colors.

Cows

Cows near Prairie du Chien on a gloomy day make a nice pastoral photo.

Fall Grasses

There is a large bank of these grasses at La Riviere city park in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and they are in top form right now in the early fall.

La Riviere City Park, Prairie du Chien, WI

Took the dogs to this beautiful park today. The early fall colors are fantastic!

Endless Forms . . . or Not!

I checked this book out of the public library, lost it, paid for it, found it again, then killed a mosquito that was crawling on top of it before returning it to the library for a refund. I found the sight of such a critter on the cover of this particular book quite ironic. That's her smooshed form that I ended right there on top of author Sean B. Carroll's name.

The Bean (Chicago)

Just a few more from Chicago

All but the first and third below are reflections.

Happy Chicago Asphalt Face

Images of Downtown Chicago

These are some random images from my day trip to Chicago the other day. Non-tourist versions perhaps.

Chicago Public Library Main Branch

I had never been in the main Chicago library before today. There are some really neat looking (and rather fancy and large) gargoylish birds on the roof corners. Inside there are about eight floors with lots of room for study. The security guards checked everyone's bags on the way out, including my purse. Life in the big city, I guess. Here you can see the roof detail, the main lobby area, part of the travel reference shelves, and a hallway we used to get to the main lobby.

Reflections (Chicago)

The same window can look very different depending on where you stand and what you catch reflecting in it. Three of these are the same set of windows, but the green one was nearby on the same wall.
